0. Scene A openers: the stills (1A, 2A, 3A approved) and the clips made from them

Ryan 17 Oct: build the swipe's illustration-style opening for all three hooks, high-curiosity pictures only, not literal matches for the words. Scene A in the swipe runs 0:00 to 0:04: a white headline bar with the hook line over a white line-art man on black, his sciatic nerve glowing orange and the glow travelling down the leg; the hook is spoken over it, then a hard cut to the doctor. Ryan approved 1A, 2A and 3A on 17 Oct; the other pictures are in the archive. The animated clips are in section 0b. Production per approved picture: one nano-banana-pro still (18 KIE credits) in the swipe's style for your approval, then a 4 s image-to-video pass for the motion described, then the headline bar and the hook line go on in CapCut. The hook line itself is the approved script, unchanged. All nine pictures are rendered (Ryan 17 Oct: render them all). The white headline bar with the hook line, and the small 'Results may vary' line, are composited onto each still by scripts/meta_video/title_bar.py (Helvetica Neue Medium, proportions measured from the swipe), never drawn by the model. The raw renders without the bar sit in frames-scene-a/. Three first takes failed QA (lettering, two forks, a young man) and were re-rendered; the rejects are in the archive.

See what sweet potatoes can do for sciatic nerve pain.

Built like the swipe's scene A: a white headline bar across the top carrying the hook line in black (added in the edit, never rendered), below it a white line-art medical illustration on black with ONE orange glowing element that is already moving at frame 0, a tiny 'Results may vary' line at the foot. The doctor's voice says the hook over it; a beat of silence; hard cut to him on the first body word. Pick ONE of the three pictures. The line says 'see what they can do', so the picture shows a potato doing something to a nerve that makes no sense yet.
1A: the potato pulls the fire outapproved
Man in his sixties curled on his side on the floor (the swipe's pose), white line art; his sciatic nerve blazes orange from the hip to the sole. One hand presses a line-drawn sweet potato against the hip. Over 4 s the glow drains UP out of the nerve into the potato: the leg goes cool white from the foot upward, the potato ends up the only thing lit. Why it stops the scroll: a potato visibly sucking pain out of a leg; the brain has to find out how. Rendered 17 Oct (nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, style reference = the swipe's scene A frame), checked at full size, hands zoomed (five digits each).

There's something in your kitchen right now that could be fueling your sciatic nerve pain.

Pick ONE. The line never names the thing, so neither does the picture: the source stays hidden and the viewer has to keep watching to see inside.
2A: the cupboard leakapproved
A line-drawn kitchen at night: an older man stands at the counter, back to us, hand on his hip; a wall cupboard behind him is open an inch and orange light leaks from the crack. Over 4 s a thread of glow runs out of the cupboard, down the wall, along the floor, up his leg and lights the sciatic nerve from the foot to the hip. The cupboard never opens. Why it stops the scroll: the pain has a source and it is in a cupboard we cannot see into. Rendered 17 Oct (nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, style reference = the swipe's scene A frame), checked at full size, hands zoomed (five digits each).

What happens to sciatic nerve pain when you eat this one common food might surprise you.

Pick ONE. The line hides the food and promises a surprise, so the picture hides the food too and shows the surprise half-happening.
3A: the censored biteapproved
Profile of an older man, line art, mouth open, his hand raising a piece of food that is blacked out by a solid black block with a white question mark on it; his sciatic nerve blazes orange down the leg. Over 4 s he bites and the nerve switches off from the hip downward like a fuse burning out in reverse, the last ember at the heel. Why it stops the scroll: the food is hidden on purpose and the effect is visible; both loops open at once. Rendered 17 Oct (nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, style reference = the swipe's scene A frame), checked at full size, hands zoomed (five digits each).

0b. Scene A openers, animated: all three approved

Ryan approved the 12 opener briefs on 29 Oct (Evolution Method Stage 2: one variable, the first four seconds of picture; script, hook and voice unchanged). One nano-banana-pro still per brief (split screens as two stills, composited in CapCut; #11 in two variants), prompts in production/ad01/prompts-openers.json, files in ~/edge-work/sciatica/ad01/frames-openers (R2 pushed). Every still was looked at full size before it reached this sheet; phone-UI, wrong-age and wrong-pose renders were re-rendered, not shown. Next per approved still: the 4 s image-to-video pass, then the headline bar in CapCut.

See what sweet potatoes can do for sciatic nerve pain.

#1 Claymation Potato Eats the Flame. FRAME 0: A lumpy orange clay sweet potato sits upright on a clay tabletop. Beside it, a simplified clay leg lies flat, a bright orange glowing blob at the hip joint, lit and pulsing. MOTION: The clay potato slowly leans toward the leg as if drawn by the glow. Its clay mouth (a simple pressed crease) opens wide. It clamps down on the orange blob at the hip and bites - a single decisive chomp. The orange blob disappears inside the potato's body. The clay leg turns from its own colour to a dull grey. The potato sits back upright, satisfied, no glow transferred - the pain is simply gone, swallowed.

#2 UGC Bathroom Mirror Moment. FRAME 0: A man in his mid-sixties stands facing a bathroom mirror, his right hand pressed to his lower back, his left hand at his side, face tight with pain. A second person films from the bathroom doorway behind him and to one side, over his shoulder toward the mirror, so the frame holds the back of his head and one shoulder and, in the mirror, his face and the bathroom clutter behind him; at that angle the phone and the person holding it fall outside what the mirror shows. A raw sweet potato sits on the counter beside the sink within reach of his left hand. MOTION: He shifts his weight and winces. With his left hand he picks up the sweet potato from the counter and holds it up next to his hip, watching it in the mirror reflection - looking at it in the mirror the way someone looks at a pill bottle they are not sure about. He glances from the potato to his own face in the mirror. Hard cut.

#3 Hands Peel Nerve Revealed. FRAME 0: One aged hand (60s skin, age spots visible) holds a raw sweet potato over a wooden cutting board; the other hand holds a peeler against it, a curl of orange skin falling away from the stroke just made. The potato flesh underneath is not orange - it is the pale white of an anatomical nerve cross-section, with faint branching lines visible. MOTION: The peeling continues stroke by stroke. Each curl of skin that falls away reveals more of the nerve-white interior with its branching structure. By 4 s half the potato is peeled, the nerve-flesh interior clearly visible, the orange skin piling on the board. The hands pause.

#4 Sweet Potato Spine X-Ray. FRAME 0: A first-person POV shot as if through the doctor's iPhone camera. The X-ray lightbox fills most of the frame, a lateral lumbar spine X-ray mounted on it showing the vertebrae and the sciatic nerve path highlighted in orange-amber. The doctor's right hand is in the bottom right of the frame, holding a real raw sweet potato up beside the X-ray - the potato sitting at roughly the same height as the lumbar region on the film. His lab coat sleeve is visible at the bottom right. The phone is in his left hand at chest height and, like that hand, is never in the picture. Fluorescent light harsh on the X-ray film. MOTION: The doctor's right hand holds the sweet potato steady beside the X-ray. The frame shifts a touch, the natural movement of a phone held in his other hand, then settles. The orange-amber glow on the sciatic nerve path in the X-ray pulses once, slowly. The doctor's hand holds the potato in place. By 4 s the frame is steady, the potato beside the spine, the iPhone about to take the photo. Hard cut.

#5 Split Screen Pain and Potato. FRAME 0: Top half: a woman in her sixties sits on the edge of a bed in the morning, shot as a wide band that becomes the top half of the composite, her upper body in the lower part of the band and the bare wall above her head in its upper part, arms reaching behind her with elbows out and hands on her lower back, face showing pain. Harsh window light. Bottom half, seen from directly above: one hand steadies a raw sweet potato on a kitchen counter, the other holds a knife resting on it for the next cut, and a thin slice already cut lies flat beside it with its orange cross-section facing up. Caption sits on the seam between the two halves. MOTION: Top half: the woman shifts, moves one hand to the mattress and tries to push up to standing, grimaces, sits back down - a loop of the pain moment. Bottom half: the knife cuts the next slice, it falls flat beside the first, the knife lifts, another cut begins - continuous slow cutting action. The two halves run simultaneously. At 4 s the bottom clip holds on the cut slices, cross-sections up.

#6 Split Screen Dog Walk Abandoned. FRAME 0: Top half: a man in his sixties stands at his open front door in plain clothes, seen in profile from inside the hallway beside him, shot as a wide band that becomes the top half of the composite, his head and upper body in the lower part of the band and the hallway ceiling in its upper part; a dog lead in his right hand, the lead slack - the dog is not there. His left hand is pressed to his lower back. He is looking out the door but not moving, face readable, showing the calculation of pain versus effort. Bottom half: a pot of actively boiling water shot from directly overhead, round sweet potato slices in the water - bright orange cross-sections visible through the churning bubbles, mimicking the lemon-slices-in-boiling-water native ad composition. A second person's hand and forearm come in from the right edge holding a teaspoon above the water, a fine white powder (resembling baking soda) falling from the spoon toward the boiling water around the sweet potato slices. Caption sits on the seam. MOTION: Top half: the man shifts his weight, looks down at the lead in his right hand, looks back out the door, does not step through it. His hand tightens on the lead. Bottom half: the teaspoon keeps sprinkling the white powder into the boiling water, the powder dissolving on contact with the bubbling surface around the orange sweet potato slices. The hand lifts the empty spoon and holds it above the pot. Steam rises. The two halves run simultaneously throughout. Hard cut at 4 s.

#8 Layered News Ticker Into Kitchen. FRAME 0: A real kitchen counter seen from directly above, the cutting board low in the frame so bare counter fills the top fifth; two aged hands hold a raw sweet potato on the board, a knife lying on the board beside it, forearms coming in from the frame edges. Across the bottom 15% of the frame, a bold news-ticker graphic composited in CapCut reads: SWEET POTATO FOR SCIATIC NERVE PAIN? NEW FINDINGS REVEALED - scrolling from frame 0. The ticker looks like a local news broadcast lower-third. The kitchen scene above it is already moving. MOTION: One hand keeps hold of the potato; the other picks up a knife and holds it over the sweet potato - paused, not yet cutting. The news ticker continues scrolling. At approximately 1.5 s the ticker graphic wipes off the bottom of the frame. The kitchen scene now fills the full frame. The knife begins to cut the potato. The cross-section is revealed. #9 Mechanism Misuse - Sweet Potato Slices on the Hip. FRAME 0: A 60s woman lies on her side on a bedroom floor, knees slightly bent, body running up the 9:16 frame with her feet at the bottom and her head at the top, the bedroom wall above her head filling the top fifth. She wears a plain t-shirt that covers her torso and loose shorts with a short hem, so her outer thigh is bare from just below the hip to the knee. Her top hip faces the ceiling. Along her outer hip and thigh a row of round sweet potato slices is laid out in a neat line: the first two on the shorts fabric over the hip joint, the rest on the bare skin of the outer thigh down toward the knee. The slices are bright orange and evenly spaced. Her top arm rests along her side, hand near her thigh; her bottom arm is under her. Her face is turned toward the camera with a calm, curious expression - not in distress, as if she has just arranged them and is waiting to see what happens. Natural window light from one side. MOTION: She holds still. One slice near the hip shifts very slightly as she breathes. Her top hand moves from her side and adjusts one of the slices on the bare thigh, pressing it more firmly against the skin, then rests again. She looks down at the row of slices along her hip, then back toward the camera. Her expression remains calm and curious. Hard cut. [first still pulled 29 Oct: contorted body; re-rendered]

nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, 29 Oct, second render after the first was pulled. Looked at as a whole figure: one woman on her side, head on her arm, legs bent together, three slices on the shorts over the hip and three on the bare outer thigh, wall clear above. Body runs across the frame rather than feet-to-head; say if you want it re-shot vertical.

#11 Infrared Thermal Leg Scan. FRAME 0: A thermal infrared scan of a human leg and lower back, 9:16 vertical. The sciatic nerve path from hip to foot blazes red-orange-yellow in the heat map - the hottest point on the body, visibly wrong. The rest of the leg is the mid-range orange of living skin. A sweet potato (a room-temperature object, so cool blue on the heat map) is pressed against the hip hot zone by a hand and forearm that enter from the right edge of the scan in the same skin orange as the leg. MOTION: The hand rotates the sweet potato slowly in place against the hip - a grinding, pressing motion, like a pestle against a mortar. As it rotates, the red-orange hot zone at the hip flattens and spreads outward, thinning like butter pushed across a surface, the concentrated peak of heat dispersing into a wider, cooler orange-yellow wash. The nerve path below the hip does not dim; the concentrated hot point at the origin simply spreads and dilutes. By 4 s the hip hot zone has gone from a tight red core to a broad diffuse orange, and the hand has turned the potato through two slow rotations; the potato stays cool blue throughout.

#12 Macro Sweet Potato Cross-Section Pulse. FRAME 0: An extreme close-up of a sweet potato sliced in half, the cut face filling the frame from side to side and from the bottom edge up to the top fifth, which is dark studio background above the potato edge. The flesh is deep orange with the natural fibre patterns visible. In the centre of the cross-section, where the core would be, a faint branching pattern is visible - the same branching structure as an anatomical nerve diagram, embedded in the flesh. Already pulsing faintly at frame 0. MOTION: The branching nerve-like pattern in the potato's core pulses slowly - brightening and dimming like a slow heartbeat. The orange flesh around it remains static. By 4 s the pulse has completed three slow cycles. The camera drifts infinitesimally closer, the branching pattern filling more of the frame.

#13 Midnight Kitchen Refrigerator Light. FRAME 0: A dark kitchen. The phone is propped on the counter on the handle side of the refrigerator; the open door is swung right back toward its hinges, away from the lens, so the shelves are open to the camera. A 60s man in pyjamas stands at the fridge in profile to the camera, facing the shelves. His right hand is pressed to his lower back, his left hand at his side. He is not looking for food - he is standing at the open fridge in the middle of the night because he cannot sleep from pain. The only light comes from the fridge and from a raw sweet potato on the middle shelf among the ordinary fridge contents, glowing strongly, a warm amber-orange light radiating from it, visibly brighter than the refrigerator bulb, as if it is lit from within. The fridge light and the glow fall onto his face and chest from in front of him, lighting the side the camera sees, and onto the floor at his feet. MOTION: He shifts his weight, grimacing. His eyes drift to the sweet potato on the shelf. The glow from the potato brightens slightly as he looks at it - warm amber light washing more strongly across his face. His expression shifts from exhausted pain to something uncertain and arrested - he has noticed the glow. He reaches in slowly with his left hand and picks it up, his right hand still on his back. The glow in his hand is strong, lighting his face from below. His expression is no longer just exhausted - it is the face of someone holding something they do not yet understand. Hard cut.

#14 Mechanism Misuse - Sweet Potato Slices on the Feet. FRAME 0: The seated person's own view, looking down and forward at their feet: they sit on a hardwood floor in a groin-stretch position - knees bent and out wide, soles nearly pressed together, feet at roughly a 45-degree angle as they naturally fall in that position. The phone is held at their chest in their left hand, so neither the phone, that hand nor their face is in the picture. In frame: their thighs angling out to the left and right edges, their feet sole-to-sole in the lower middle, and the clear hardwood floor beyond the feet filling the top fifth. Round sweet potato slices - bright orange cross-sections - lie across both feet and ankles, resting on the skin, three or four slices per foot along the top of each foot and ankle. The person is still. MOTION: The person holds the stretch position. One sweet potato slice on the left ankle shifts very slightly as the foot settles. Their right hand comes into the picture from the bottom edge, reaches to the right ankle and places one more slice carefully onto it, pressing it lightly against the skin. The hand withdraws below the bottom edge. The feet and the slices are still. Hard cut. [rounds 1-2 pulled: slices on the side / trousers, then straight legs with feet to the ceiling]

Ryan: make this it's own separate opening scene to test by itself.

1. The doctor: avatar portrait for HeyGen (take 5b approved)

The talking head is a HeyGen photo avatar built from the still you approve here (Avatar IV, one continuous render of the full script with hook 1, plus two short head renders for hooks 2 and 3; HeyGen voice from a 20-second ElevenLabs sample). Ryan 17 Oct: keep this doctor, match the swipe's shot: about 20 degrees, from the chest up, same perspective. Takes 5a and 5b are that round (references: take 3 for the man, the swipe frame at 2:30 for the shot). Takes 4a and 4b (45 degrees, his first note) and takes 2 and 3 (corridor) are kept below.

The doctor avatar: approve one
Take 5b: same shot, a little more headroom
Take 5b: same shot, a little more headroomapproved
nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, same references. Checked at full size: same man and wardrobe, nearly square to the camera, office chair and clinic bench behind, no text, no interface, nobody else in frame. Looser than the swipe; crops tighter if preferred. APPROVED by Ryan 17 Oct 01:28 (submission recovered from the store's history; the live file was overwritten by another job at 01:29).

2. The doctor's voice: D3-2 approved (in the HeyGen kit)

Ryan 17 Oct: he builds the UGC video in HeyGen himself from the approved still plus a voice sample (API renders cost more). Six samples, all reading the same 71-word opening so they compare like for like: three ElevenLabs Voice Design takes graded oldest by the blind age checker (plus one younger designed take), and two library voices. Approve one and it goes into heygen-upload/02-voiceover/ with the still in 01-avatar-looks/. ElevenLabs credits this round: 1,792 of 40,000 (26,357 left).

The doctor's voice: approve one
Voice D3-2: sounds 70, 155 wpmapproved
designed D3: retired spine specialist, warm baritone with gravel, Midwestern. Reads the script's first 71 words (hook 1 + the opening lines), about 25 s, ready to upload to HeyGen as the voice sample. Blind age check: 70 (older); pace 155 words a minute (the swipe's doctor is about 190). APPROVED by Ryan 17 Oct 16:18; copied to heygen-upload/02-voiceover/doctor-voice-D3-2-approved.mp3.

12 items: earlier rounds and alternatives not picked, kept for reference
0. Scene A openers: the stills (1A, 2A, 3A approved) and the clips made from them: Beat 1, alternatives not picked
1B: the nerve is inside the potatocandidate
Not chosen 17 Oct (Ryan approved H1A). Close on two line-drawn hands slicing a sweet potato lengthwise on a board. As the halves part, the cut face is not flesh: it is the branching sciatic nerve, glowing orange, pulsing like a heartbeat. Over 4 s the knife finishes the cut and the two halves tilt open, the glow brightening. Why it stops the scroll: a nerve where food should be; the sentence says 'sweet potatoes' and the picture says 'your leg'. Rendered 17 Oct (nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, style reference = the swipe's scene A frame), checked at full size, hands zoomed (five digits each).
1C: the bite switches the leg offcandidate
Not chosen 17 Oct (Ryan approved H1A). Profile of an older man, line art, a fork lifting a glowing orange piece of sweet potato to his open mouth; his whole sciatic nerve is lit orange down the back of the leg. Over 4 s he bites, the glow runs from the mouth down the spine and the nerve goes dark from the hip to the foot, the fork's piece the last thing glowing. Why it stops the scroll: eating something turns a leg off, in one motion. Rendered 17 Oct (nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, style reference = the swipe's scene A frame), checked at full size, hands zoomed (five digits each).
0. Scene A openers: the stills (1A, 2A, 3A approved) and the clips made from them: Beat 2, alternatives not picked
2B (take 2): the fuel linecandidate
Not chosen 17 Oct (Ryan approved H2A). An older man bent over a kitchen counter, line art; a petrol-pump nozzle is plugged into his lower back, its hose running off-frame toward the pantry shelf. Over 4 s orange fuel pulses down the hose, into the hip, and down the sciatic nerve to the foot, brighter with every pulse. Why it stops the scroll: 'fueling' made literal, a fuel nozzle in a man's back; wrong enough to need an explanation. Take 2: same prompt plus no lettering / one fork / a man in his sixties, checked at full size and hands zoomed (five digits each).
2C (take 2): what's on the platecandidate
Not chosen 17 Oct (Ryan approved H2A). Top-down line drawing of a dinner plate with knife and fork, a glass, a folded napkin. The food on the plate is a coiled sciatic nerve glowing orange, hottest at the one point the fork is about to pierce. Over 4 s the fork comes down, the glow flares at the tine, and the plate's rim starts to glow. Why it stops the scroll: a calm dinner setting with a nerve for a meal, under a serious sentence; the brain has to reconcile the two. Take 2: same prompt plus no lettering / one fork / a man in his sixties, checked at full size and hands zoomed (five digits each).
0. Scene A openers: the stills (1A, 2A, 3A approved) and the clips made from them: Beat 3, alternatives not picked
3B: unpluggedcandidate
Not chosen 17 Oct (Ryan approved H3A). Line art: the sciatic nerve drawn as a lamp cord running down the leg of a seated older man and into a wall socket behind him, glowing orange along its length. A hand holds a blacked-out bite of food near his mouth. Over 4 s the glow flickers, the cord goes dark, and the plug drops out of the wall. Why it stops the scroll: pain as electricity, which is what the burning electric-shock feeling is, and a bite of something unplugs it. Rendered 17 Oct (nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, style reference = the swipe's scene A frame), checked at full size, hands zoomed (five digits each).
3C (take 2): one of thesecandidate
Not chosen 17 Oct (Ryan approved H3A). A line-drawn kitchen shelf of eight ordinary foods (bread, milk, eggs, a tin, a jar, an apple, a bottle, a box), all plain white outlines, one of them blacked out with a glowing orange edge. Over 4 s a thread of glow runs from the blacked-out food down to a small figure below the shelf, clutching his hip, and his nerve dims from orange to white. Why it stops the scroll: eight familiar things and one hidden one; the viewer starts guessing which. Take 2: same prompt plus no lettering / one fork / a man in his sixties, checked at full size and hands zoomed (five digits each).
0b. Scene A openers, animated: all three approved: Beat 12, alternatives not picked
take 1: butterfly stretch, soles rolled upcandidate
nano-banana-pro, 18 KIE credits, 29 Oct, third round: knees pushed out wide, soles pressed together and rolled up at about 45 degrees, shorts, slices on the ankles and outer tops of the feet, none on clothing. One person, two legs, a pose a body can hold.

Ryan: Try and match this pose as much as possible. It's not really 45°. It's kind of like a 20° angle, maybe. Just match this as closely as possible, and the perspective too, where it's kind of from his chest up, right?

The swipe's doctor: the first 24 s of the reference adreference
Reference only, not a candidate. Audio lifted from the Alpha Palm swipe video (Dropbox Swipe/Sciatica), 0:00 to 0:24, cut at the pause after 'they've already tried pretty much everything': the hook plus the opening three lines, the same passage the six samples below read. 70 words in 24 s including the hook pause, about 175 wpm.
